About Sequim

Sequim has just been again named as the best retirement community in the United States.  We retired to Sequim from Portland when we build Cedarduck in 1997-98.  We love it here, and would stay forever if it were not for our desire to live closer to our son, his wife, and our granddaughters (ages 4 and 6) in Idaho.

We feel that the attractions of Sequim to retirees are numerous, but most would include:

1. Mild year-round climate. While others are suffering with heat in summer and bitter cold in winter, Sequim is comfortable.  We are in the “rain shadow” of Mount Olympus, so we get much less precipitation than most of western Washington.  See climate statistics here.

2. Beautiful naturalistic setting.  We are close to Olympic National Park and the Pacific Ocean.   Pristine lakes, rivers, and mountains provide a wealth of outdoor recreation.  See tourism information here.

3. A welcoming community.  Because we are a retirement destination, you can find others who share your interests.   There are all sorts of clubs and organizations for retirees with special hobbies (sewing, dancing, hiking, gardening, etc.).   There are also many volunteer opportunities, which we both enjoy.

4. Medical services. Let’s face it. Medical services are important to seniors. Medical services in Sequim and Port Angeles are excellent. We use Olympic Medical Center.

5. Peace and Tranquility.  For us, Sequim was a welcome relief from big city traffic jams, congestion, noise, and crime.  Still, when we do need something in Seattle (such as SeaTac international airport), it is not too far away.

This little video gives you a sample of the Sequim experience…
